Winning Prizes on the Radio

In the last year, I've won free tickets to a whole lot of great events: seats for two different plays at our local professional theatre company, tickets to half a dozen top-name acts at the best nightclub in town, to see , 4-pack family tickets to the Ringling Brothers circus and the Harlem Globetrotters comedy basketball team. And my CD collection has at least 20 great albums that I won on the radio.

I'm not a "prize pig"--someone who tunes five radios to different stations and has all the numbers programmed into their phone. I listen to one station at a time, to shows I genuinely enjoy. But I win a lot more often than most. Here's what I do:

* Dial when they announce a giveaway is coming up--before the phones are open--and use the speed-redial the moment the phones are open. If I get a busy signal, I hit "flash" to get a rapid dialtone, and redial again. * Listen at odd hours, to small stations--and to shows where the DJ is well-connected and gives a lot away (many college stations are great for this) * Know a lot of music trivia for the genres of the shows I listen to

See--not that hard! Try it and let me know your successes.
